WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Mac 61, Brock 74

It was another frustrating road loss for Coach Theresa Burns and her young Marauder team, who fell 74-61 to the Brock Badgers on Saturday.

“Individual play, standing still offensively and standing still defensively, not making adjustments on the fly,” Burns listed as her team’s fatal flaws in a game that saw the Badgers shoot 45 per cent and make eight three pointers.

McMaster let up its defensive pressure in the third quarter and the Badgers made them pay, nailing six treys in the quarter alone.

“We gave them way to many threes wide open… we just refused to make adjustments,” said Burns.

The official scoresheet, which it should be noted had some issues counting scores in the game, listed the Badgers as handing out an incredible 22 assists on 25 made field goals.

“That’s been one of our strengths all year. When we don’t score, it’s when we don’t have good ball movement… it was really nice to see the ball movement today,” said Badgers head coach Si Khounviseth.

McMaster struggled from the field all day, shooting just 33 per cent. Standout point guard Taylor Smith scored just 10 points on 3-16 shooting.

Lauren Stewart and Hillary Woodside led all scorers with 16 points.

Rookie Liz Burns, not to be confused with the coach, posted her best game as a Marauder, chipping in 13 points on 6-9 shooting. Taylor Chiarot also added 13 in the loss.
