He may be a graduate of McMaster’s multimedia program, but Jason Wellings’ education on the links is the one paying the greatest dividends at the moment. The six-year veteran of the Marauder golf program put his club swinging prowess on display last week, posting a final-round score of 69 to lock up a win at the Toronto Star Amateur Tournament.
Despite hitting cleanly off the tee throughout the event, Wellings’ victory was far from certain as the final round kicked off, with the Flamborough native sitting at five-under after Thursday’s proceedings.

This past month, Volleyball Canada held its annual selection camp to determine the composition of this year’s edition of the national squad. The event, which was hosted in Gatineau, Quebec from May 9 to 14, boasted a field of 44, representing the best volleyballers that this country has to offer.
Included in this group were Jeremy Groenveld, Tyler Santoni, and Josh Lichty, three stars of the current McMaster team, which finished the 2009-2010 season as OUA semifinalists. Unfortunately for the decorated Marauders, they would not find a place among the final selections of coach Glenn Hoag. Instead, Coach Hoag and the national administration opted decidedly for experience and continuity in their 2010 squad choices.
