McMaster University is located on the traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and the Anishinabe nations, which was protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement. The "Dish" represents the shared land, while "One Spoon" reinforces the idea of sharing and peace.
We are guests on this land and are privileged to be able to work, study and live here. The Silhouette recognizes that this acknowledgement is only a single step towards reconciliation and that a lot of progress still needs to be made. We commit to ensuring Indigenous voices are heard and that their stories be told.
