The votes are in – organizers of the TD PumpItUp contest have announced that McMaster students will be getting a visit from Steve Aoki, Dragonette and Young Empires.

This is the second time McMaster University has been in contention for the contest’s top prize.

Last year, McMaster faced off against St. Clair’s College in the final round, but when students from Queen’s University protested the results, contest organizers recounted votes and determined that Queen’s should have been in the final. St. Clair’s College was disqualified and Queen’s ended up winning against McMaster in a tight race.

This time around, McMaster was able to edge out Queen’s in the heavyweight division. As a result, Mac students will be treated to a free concert in mid-November.

The contest required participants to vote on Facebook and Twitter, with extra points available by answering trivia questions.

“We were a bit apprehensive about the program because of what happened last time, but this year there was so much student pride,” said Al Legault, director of MSU Campus Events. “Students did not want to lose and we knew we had a real shot at winning.”

Legault said details about the venue and ticket sales will be released in a few weeks.

“We don't know yet where it will be held, and that will depend on which facilities have the highest capacity,” said Legault. “We’d really like to have the concert on campus.”
