Here’s a a recap of the MSU mayoral debate

On Oct. 17 the MSU held a mayoral debate from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the MUSC Atrium. Four mayoral candidates including Michael Pattinson, Ejaz Butt, Keanin Loomis and Solomon Ikhuiwu were present, with the five remaining mayoral candidates not in attendance. The debate was livestreamed and a recording of the debate can be found on the MSU Facebook page.

Here’s a recap of the Hamilton ward 1 councillor candidate debate

The Silhouette hosted a live-streamed debate between the Ward 1 councillor candidates running in the 2022 Hamilton municipal election. Ward 1 councillor candidates include Ian MacPherson, John Vail and current Ward 1 councillor Maureen Wilson. All three candidates attended the debate. The debate was guided by Silhouette Editor in Chief Nisha Gill and the main topics addressed included the most significant issues faced by Ward 1, the current housing and affordability crisis and detasking the Hamilton police force.

The school of the arts launched a new, interdisciplinary arts program this fall

This fall, McMaster University launched their new Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Integrated Arts (iArts), a level I direct-entry program for students wishing to pursue the arts from an interdisciplinary perspective. The new program allows students to explore the history and theory underlying the arts, from visual arts to performance, media and design and it aims to bridge skills across the arts to provide students with a truly integrated and comprehensive fine arts education.

Hamilton Mayoral Candidate: Michael Pattison 

The Silhouette sat down with mayoral candidate Michael Pattison to reflect on his current campaign and the most pressing issues for the upcoming election. Pattison is running as a mayoral candidate for the third time in his political career, having previously campaigned for the position in 2014 and 2018. He is running again this term to address issues involving affordability, transparency and food insecurity in the municipal government.

Hamilton Mayoral Candidate: Andrea Horwath

The Silhouette sat down with Andrea Horwath to discuss her campaign for mayor in the 2022 Hamilton municipal election.  Horwath has a long political resume that starts with her position as Hamilton’s Ward 2 city councillor in 1997 being re-elected in both 2001 and 2003. In 2009 she was elected as leader of Ontario’s New Democratic Party, until 2022 when she left her position and declared her intention to run for mayor of Hamilton.
