The CIS has announced that Pierre Lafontaine has resigned as CEO.

Lafontaine joined the organization in January 2013 and is leaving after only two years.

“I feel the time is right for me to explore new challenges and opportunities,” said Lafontaine in a press release. At this time, his next step is unknown.

There are a few highlights of note from his tenure. The CIS launched a new strategic plan while developing a new governance structure. Most importantly, the Canadian university sport league secured a broadcast deal with Sportsnet. Championships for basketball, hockey and football are shown on national television through 2018-19.

Lafontaine’s departure leaves the CIS searching for a new executive at a key point in their season. According to the press release, the league will begin to search for a replacement immediately.
