CUPE 3906 and McMaster to meet for negotiations on Dec. 1 and 2, union has approval to strike

McMaster teachings and research assistants will meet with university officials to restart negotiations on a new contract on Dec. 1 and 2. A "provincially appointed conciliator" will be present to work with the two groups.

When the Silhouette spoke to the Canadian Union of Public Employees 3906 in September, the union said their main priorities in these negotiations are guaranteeing funding for five years instead of four for Ph.D students, and improving mental health care coverage. Currently, graduate student are not eligible for mental health care services at the Student Wellness Centre.

In late October, CUPE 3906 held a strike vote. 72% of respondents supported a strike, meaning the union could strike depending how the negotiations go.
