From craft shows and bazaars, to winter activities and cozy places to visit, here are some must-attend events happening around the city this holiday season.

Handmade Hamilton: A Holiday Craft Show and Sale

When: Saturday December 2nd & Sunday December 3rd, 2017 at 11 am to 5 pm

Where: Staircase Café Theatre (20-minute bus ride from campus)

Spend some time shopping textile art, ceramics and home decor in the historic Staircase Café. The event features 32 makers including Hamilton-based fiber artist Hitoko Okada, the graphic-designing Jelly Brothers duo and Heather Saunders, a plush artist. Admission is $2 and the first fifty will receive a swag bag!

Craftadian Christmas Market

When: Saturday December 2nd at 10 am to 4 pm

Where: McMaster Innovation Park (10-minute bus ride)

The Craftadian selection includes over 70 artisans from all over Canada. Yule spruce up your holiday gifts this year with a large selection of handmade soap, jewelry, and clothing pieces from True Hamiltonian. The market will also include an indoor food selection and outdoor food trucks, so be sure to try some Hotti Biscotti with Durand coffee. Admission is $5 and first 50 shoppers will receive free gifts.

The Second City: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Sweater

When: Saturday Dec.9th at 8 pm to 10:30 pm

Where: The Zoetic (30-minute bus ride)

The Second City’s holiday show will make you grin-ch and laugh as the cast performs a mix of satirical sketches and songs poking fun at holiday traditions and season craziness. Tickets to the comedy show are approximately $30 and can be bought online.

Films for a Cause

When: Saturday Dec. 16th at 7 pm

Where: The Annex – Art Gallery of Hamilton (20-minute bus ride)

Tree-t yourself to a night of local indie film screenings and raffle prizes from The Burnt Tongue, Girl on the Wing, and O’s Clothes, who are just a few of the businesses supporting the movie fundraiser. Admission is 2 (or more) non-perishable food items, winter attire donations, or $5 at the door. Proceeds will go towards several services in the Hamilton community.

Shop the Cotton Factory

When: Saturday December 16th at 11 am to 4 pm

Where: Cotton Factory (45-minute bus ride)

On the third Saturday of every month, the cotton mill turned creative industries complex opens its doors to the public for viewing and shopping the works of Hamilton-based artists, designers, photographers and makers. The three-storey Mill building and gothic-influenced tower are worth seeing in its own right.
