In a 22 hour long meeting on Sunday, April 12, the Student Representative Assembly (SRA) elected the MSU Vice Presidents and Speaker for the upcoming term.

For the VP (Administration) role, Giuliana Guarna defeated Corey Helie-Masters, Shanthiya Baheerathan, Natasha Sandhu and Mike Cheung.

Cheung, the 2014-2015 MSU Speaker, only announced his candidacy minutes before the VP (Administration) election. He told the SRA that he did not announce his candidacy for VP (Administration) earlier because he values the integrity of the office of the Speaker.

"I did not want my personal goal to run for VP Administration to have anything to do or interfere with my role as Speaker," Cheung said in his opening statement.

Daniel D'Angela beat John Tambakis, David Rios and Kalia Akkad for VP (Finance), and Spencer Nestico-Seminiw won the VP (Education) role over Tristan Paul and Anser Abbas.

In the next three weeks, the Vice President-elects will be going through a transition period with the current Board of Directors. They will commence their full time, one-year term along Ehima Osazuwa, the MSU President-Elect, on May 1.

At this meeting, the SRA also elected the 2015-2016 MSU Speaker, Inna Berditchevskaia.

When elections came to a close, Eric Gillis, SRA Social Sciences, brought forth the motion for the MSU to advocate against the MSAF modifications that are scheduled to come into effect on May 1. The motion passed unanimously.

Narro-Perez, the current MSU VP (Education), added that the MSU Board of Directors has already been in conversation with the university and has expressed their opposition to these changes at the Undergraduate Council and to Sean Van Koughnett, Dean of Students.

This was the first meeting of the newly elected SRA. The Assembly will meet again next Sunday, April 19, to elect commissioners and committee members for the 2015-2016 term.
